How to Make a Paper Crumple Reveal

Make a paper crumple reveal from your own image. See a narrated example, choose paper and framing, check the motion and export a clip for your video.

PAPER REVEAL TUTORIAL

A paper crumple reveal starts with a folded sheet and opens to show a subject. It works as a short visual transition when you want the reveal itself to carry the beat. The example below shows the motion before you add your own content.

Make your own reveal

  1. Choose the image

Pick a subject with a clear outline and enough resolution for your intended frame. A transparent cutout makes the subject easy to separate from the paper; if your image still has a background, prepare it with the background remover first. Review small details such as hair and fingers.

  2. Choose a paper look

Open the Paper Crumple effect, add your image and compare the available paper treatments. The folds should support the subject rather than hide the main detail. Keep enough contrast between the paper, subject and background.

  3. Frame the entire movement

Set your output to 16:9 for a landscape edit or 9:16 for a vertical video. Adjust size and position, then play the whole preview. Check both the folded opening frame and the fully revealed frame; leave room for the subject's movement and paper edge.

  4. Export the clip

Choose a duration that lets the reveal finish before your next cut. Select 720p or 1080p, export and keep the browser tab open until the file downloads. A free account includes 3 lifetime 720p animation exports without a watermark; unlimited plans include 1080p. Browser support determines whether the result is MP4 or WebM.

Where the reveal fits in an edit

For a product announcement, start on the folded paper and cut to product footage when the subject is fully visible. For a video essay, use the reveal as a chapter entrance, then continue into the next scene. Add music or narration in your normal editor and align its beat with the opening motion.

Keep the result readable

If the subject feels too small, move it closer and reduce unused background. If part of it leaves the frame, lower its scale and recheck both aspect ratios. If the opening looks busy, use simpler imagery or a calmer paper treatment. A sharper source image will help more than increasing export resolution alone.

For a subject that stays visible and moves gently throughout the clip, try the photo cutout guide. For a word that stays fixed while print changes, follow the text match cut tutorial.
